You will be required to get a sick note for your absenteeism under certain circumstances.  This is generally how things work.

In South Africa, the requirements for providing a sick note are outlined in the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA). These are the key points:

1. Absence Duration: If you are absent from work for more than two consecutive days, or if you are absent more than twice in an eight-week period, your employer can request a medical certificate.
2. Medical Certificate: The certificate must be issued and signed by a medical practitioner or any other person certified to diagnose and treat patients, and who is registered with a professional council established by an Act of Parliament.
3. First Six Months of Employment: During the first six months of employment, you are entitled to one day of paid sick leave for every 26 days worked¹.
4. Sick Leave Cycle: After the first six months, you are entitled to the number of days you would normally work in a six-week period for sick leave on full pay in a three-year cycle.
