KeymasterThings are not going well at work and I don’t know if our company will pay us this month. Last month there were excuses and we were paid late. What happens if they just don’t pay us? Can I do something?

KeymasterI’m sorry to hear you’re dealing with this situation.
No-one should have to plead for their salary…. you have done the work so you must be paid as per the working arrangement.
Here are some steps you can take if your boss does not pay your salary:
- Check Your Employment Contract: Review your contract to understand the terms regarding salary payments and any clauses related to late or missed payments.
- Communicate with Your Employer: Politely remind your employer about the missed payment. Sometimes, it could be an oversight or a delay in processing.
- Document Everything: Keep records of all communications with your employer regarding the unpaid salary. This includes emails, messages, and notes from any conversations.
- Seek Internal Resolution: If direct communication doesn’t work, escalate the issue to your HR department or a higher authority within your company.
- Know Your Rights: Familiarize yourself with the labor laws. The Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA) outlines the rights of employees regarding payment of wages.
- Contact a Labor Union or Legal Advisor: If the issue remains unresolved, consider seeking advice from a legal advisor who specializes in employment law.
- File a Complaint: If things remain unresolved, file a complaint with the Department of Labour…
I hope this helps…
